“When I was a senior in the department, I planned to study communication systems at the master’s level but I’ve always liked physics—I considered doing physics as an undergraduate—and optics is the area of study in electrical engineering that feels the most like pure physics so I switched.”
“I have an NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship fellowship that supports Ph.D. students at UB who are working in areas that connect with biophotonics. My program is very interdisciplinary. Right now I’m working with chemical engineers and chemists on problems related to producing silicon nanoparticals that will have biophotonic applications.”
“We have several young, active, up-and-coming faculty in a variety of fields, and there are programs in place for students who want to do collaborative, interdisciplinary research with students and faculty in other departments.”
